Orginal description of Cyttarocylis ampulla formerly Petalotricha ampulla

Hermann Fol first found these cells in the Bay of Villefranche and described the species as Tintinnus ampulla. The figure "3" shows pair of cell 'copulating' now know as conjugation: exchanging genetic material. The species is now known as Cyttarocylis ampulla
